Welcome to gorillacd.org

15 Sep 2008

I first met Emmanuel in Nairobi, a couple of years ago. I was in Kenya traveling and a common friend introduced us. Together with his team, Emmanuel was making a first attempt on building a website that informed people on Conservation issues in Eastern Africa and enabled them to make donations online.

Working at eBay, it came very natural to me to give some feedback and explain some of the techniques to drive traffic and improve usability.

And since that afternoon, I actually never stopped.

We rebuilt the website according to my suggestions and then spent the following year improving what we did. The whole idea being the creation of a community of involved people that do their part either in the US, in Italy (where I’m based), in Kenia (where our admin is), in DR Congo, or anywhere in the world. The Internet was simply the most powerful tool ever and enabled us to do so.

I am very grateful to Emmanuel, he has involved me in a journey that not many people have the chance to be part of.  Very seldom before I met somebody so passionate about conservation and so in love with Africa. Every time I go to Congo and meet the rest of the team in person, I am always fascinated by the energy and strive that they all put into their job.

I hope you will enjoy this website and find it useful. Please do email on  alberto at gorillacd.org me with any comments, bugs, or new features you would like to see implemented. We are on extremely tight budgets, but do our best to keep the website up and let it grow.

If you code php, have some knowledge of wp-mu, and feel like you want to help, please also email me.

Asante sana

Alberto
